I have chosen to discuss assisted suicide and the use of euthanasia; whether they are morally right or wrong. I have found a range of ten articles about various situations which all include the question of this discussion; some for and some against these issues. I chose this topic because I sometimes ponder on such things as death, and can't decide if suicide is brave, cowardly, or plain selfish. Brave in the sense of facing death, cowardly in the sense of fearing the pain of life and the future enough to prefer death, and selfish in the sense of being so focused on your own pain, that you don't consider the feelings of the people left behind.
And so I came across the issues of assisted suicide and euthanasia. This idea was new to me at the beginning, and it made me wonder. Is it okay to kill someone who wants to die and gives you permission? And if euthanasia is legalised, won't that introduce problems of dishonest doctors killing a patient who wants to die naturally or wait a bit longer, pretending that they wanted it? Even if they think it's showing mercy by putting someone out of their misery; we may do that to animals, but are we animals? Not everyone believes that they just disappear when they die.
i like your way of thinking
ReplyDelete(*´▽`)*looking forward to he rest of your blog
Why, thank you. I try to look at things from multiple points of view. There's no point making a judgement if you don't know the full story, That would make it biased. :)
DeleteHey, this is a really nice introduction. I'm looking forward to seeing the results of your research. I, too, was going to do this topic, but as I have personal ties to said topic, I thought it wouldn't be a good idea.
ReplyDeleteUm, I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but just 'cause it's a current event in the U.S regarding Euthanasia, plus this site has a heap of socio-policitical news, so there's probably other related stuff around on it: http://www.care2.com/causes/physician-assisted-suicide-ballot-push-in-massachusetts.html
Hope that can help somehow (:
Hey, thanks for the tip! I read the article and it's really interesting. I'll throw it in there.
DeleteThis is a very controversial topic. I think it's weird how we "put animals down" all the time if they are suffering but we would never do the same to humans. It's hard to decide whether assisted suicide should be allowed in society. And if somebody helped someone they loved kill themselves who didn't want to live any more, do they get punished?
ReplyDeleteYes, it is hard, because everybody believes in different things for different reasons. Now you've got me thinking on animals, and I'm wondering if it's such a good idea to put them down so easily as well...
Deletegood progress don't forget to put in links
ReplyDeleteYessir! I'm still working on it.
DeleteThis is a really heavy topic yet it needs to be brought to light because we need to see whether there is justification or not. This blog is great in my opinion because it takes an objective stance that allows people to make an informed judgement so hopefully they will be less judgmental on decisions made.
ReplyDeleteI know the pain of euthanasia through my dog who had cancer, and even though she was a pet it was very hard to even make the decision to put her down, I can't imagine it for a person.
Your doing great keep it up. :)
Thank you! I'm greatly encouraged. Yes, they're also put down because the owners can't always afford to pay for an operation. What if it also became like that with humans? I didn't think about that before...
ReplyDeleteWhat a facinating topic, I like your views on the topic and the argument your making. On my opinion I think it is wrong to legalise euthanasia for humans, as on most occassions when a person is wanting to choose death over life they are not in their right state of mind. People who are in such situations need time to really think about what they want. Anyway great topic and a great angle to look at it!
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for your comment. You make a good point. When someone's suffering and in pain it's hard to think of much else..
ReplyDeletethis is such an interesting topic, and controversial because everyone thinks about death. I like how you have looked at the topic from both perspectives. Its a bit different to compare animals with humans, because you don't know what the animals thinking, even though they might be in pain. Humans can say and think what they like, so i think its so much harder to recognise if they want to live or not.
ReplyDeleteGreat job btw!
